The most famous area of the city, where the revolution started in 1974 and where everybody wants to be now.

Rua Garrett and its famous Brasileira café with its sculpture of Fernando Pessoa has a famous past that some writers like Eça de Queirós loved to portray. The artistic life was concentered here in the 19th century, it is also where wealthy people came to socialize and used to have their houses, some still have them in the family. The Turf club, only for men, still exists in the neighborhood.

Nowadays, however, it’s quite different, shops like Zara Home, Benetton, H&M, Apple, Swarovsky or the best ice creams of the world Santini opened their doors and turned this area into an opened air shopping center. Chiado is the sensitive center of Lisbon. The best neighborhood for someone who wants animation all day long and its proximity with Bairro Alto turns it into the perfect match for night life lovers.

You’ll find beautiful and typical buildings around Rua das Chagas, da Emenda, Ivens, Garrett, largos de S.Carlos, or das Belas Artes.

Sqm price are high maybe similar to others European capitals, it is in fact the most expensive of Lisbon, along with Avenida da Liberdade. It is a very good investment essentially for businesses related to hotels due to the tourism demand.

Prices skyrocketed those last years, but it’s possible that they will stagnate over the next few years. New interesting neighborhoods are being reclassified and due to the shortage in Chiado, interests are starting to travel through other areas of Lisbon.
